My wife and I split our Westin Princeville unit into two weeks, stayed in the studio on Kauai and premium one bedroom on Maui.
This was our BEST vacation ever, we did nothing for two weeks having been on both islands several times. In fact other than a Capt Andy Sunset dinner Cruise on Kauai we did nothing out of the ordinary. Yet as I wrote earlier our best vacation.
The grounds here are great, the exercise room which was very nice and had several choices on workout machines was more than adequate. If we didn't use the exercise room we took the beach walk south past beautiful homes, a golf course and mountain views.
Our favorite dinner place now is Lahaina Grill off Front Street in Lahaina. We have had the same server two trips in a row and he was very cordial and very efficient. Food is excellent, service is excellent pricey dinner but like the boss says we are on vacation.
A couple of sunset dinners on Ka'anapoli beach were good this time, walks after sunset are a high light of the evening for us. We ate at Duke's on the beach our last night and saw a beautiful sunset right from our outside table!
We still talk about how beautiful the resort was and look forward to splitting our Kauai unit again in 2014. We own ever other year on Kauai.
We also own at Diamond resorts Ka'anapoli Beach Club which we have stayed at once. It is okay but doesn't rate as highly as the Westin which is to be expected.

Check in was a little slow. They had 5 people checking in guests but the computers seemed to be slow. It took around 25 minutes to get checked in. We were originally going to be in the very back of the resort with only a mountain view but they were able to put us in a unit that had a very tiny ocean view at the back of the resort. I guess you can’t expect much when you get in as an exchange. The unit was a nice size although not huge. Bathroom was very big with a great tub, 2 sinks and a large shower. The shower had great water pressure. We had a 2 bedroom lock off unit. The second bedroom was nice size with a large corner shower and toilet in one room with a sink & tub outside. There was a King size bed in both units. Beds were very comfortable. Kitchen was quite small but had everything but an oven. They provided 2 pkgs of coffee, 2 dishwasher detergents, dish sponge for washing, and liquid detergent in the Kitchen. Shampoo, conditioner, lotion and soap were provided in the bathrooms. They had a mid week clean where they changed out the towels and linens. There was a small narrow balcony outside the bedroom and living room with a table and 2 padded chairs. The sun covered the balcony by noon so it was too hot to use it after that. Pictures on the website are what the rooms look like.
We were fortunate to have a 2 bedroom unit with no one staying with us due to some maintenance issues in the room. When we went into the 2nd bedroom midweek we noticed large black bits all over the bed from the air conditioning unit. Had someone stayed in that room I hate to think of what they would have been breathing in. It was very bad. They came up and changed the filter and vacuumed it but a couple of days later we notice more black bits on the bed again although it was not quite as bad. They came back again and cleaned it better and we did not notice any problems before we left. The second issue we had was the odor in the main bathroom toilet area. The toilet was in a separate room and when you walked into the room it smelled like a sewer (really, I am not exagerating). They kept telling us it smelled because of the lift station below us but the smell was only in the toilet area and no other area in the unit or outside the unit. They also said they have had that complaint in other units. We think it came up from the toilet or down from the vent. I had to use the toilet in the second bedroom as the smell was so bad it made me sick to walk in the room. As long as we kept the door shut and used room deodorizer spray we didn’t get the odor in the rest of the unit. For a Westin resort this is unacceptable. It was very fortunate we did not have others staying with us for these reasons. We were very disappointed in their maintenance staff. They were quick to respond but did not do the job right the first time with the air conditioning unit and were unable to do anything about the smell in the bathroom. Not difficult to turn down their offer to buy under these circumstances.
The grounds were very nice and there were a lot of pool chairs. Kabanas were available to rent. I’m not sure how much. There were several pools including a children’s pool. We were not crazy about the layout of the pools. There was a Monday morning gathering to talk about what is available at the resort where they gave away a few gifts and served juice and fruit (although most was gone by the time I went through the line). We had arrived Friday so this was a little late in our stay. We did not participate in any of the activities as they did not interest us. We had a car so we usually went elsewhere for meals as they seemed high at the resort although I’m sure this is typical of many high end resorts. This resort did not seem as friendly as some we have been to in Maui. Hardly any of the staff said hi or smiled at you as you passed.
All in all it is a nice resort but I would not stay again if I had to have a room where the bathroom smelled like a sewer. We were in Room 6338/6340.

Our 4th trip to Maui in 27 years. Our first stay at the Westin Ka'anapali. We are Westin Desert Willow owners, and used our Staroptions to stay here. The resort was great. Check in and and check out was great. We wouldn't mind staying here again.

This is our home resort and our 4th visit to this resort. We had room 2323 this time which is the third floor pool and ocean view, we enjoyed the pool view and easy access to the boardwalk and beach. The rooms are as nice as always but we simply can’t rate this resort above a 9 because it really isn’t the top of the resorts we have seen or been to. The pool is nice but not spectacular, the workout facilities are in the basement and very limited, the on-site food options are limited, and the lounge chairs and umbrellas on the beach are very expensive and come with no personal service - saying all that, it may be among the top for timeshare exchanges, as we simply haven’t done many of those. Our experience is limited to the Starwood and Marriott properties for exchange. Don’t misunderstand, we love the resort and plan to return year after year but we think some improvements could definitely be made. Overall, the units and grounds seem to be kept in good shape. Our dishwasher didn’t work and so they tried to fix it and ended up replacing it. Not terribly inconvenient or anything, just a scheduling challenge with maintenance. Otherwise everything was in good working order. We always cook when we are there and love the full kitchen in these units as well as the w/d in the units. We were visiting with our sister and brother-in-law who ran the Maui marathon and enjoyed comparing their unit and amenities at the Marriott Ocean Club with ours. Pros and Cons to each. They have two bathrooms but not a full kitchen or W/D in the unit. Ours are newer but their lawn area with lounges is nicer with great service at the rentals. They have less beach area in front but are closer to Whaler’s village and all the restaurants. The snorkeling in front of our villas was great and we spent time on the beach as usual, we never sit by the pool while we are here. Ate at the pool restaurant and were really pleased with the upgraded menu. Also walked to Duke’s for dinner at sunset one night and that was awesome. Overall, we continue to be pleased with our purchase here and always wish we could stay longer.

Our son and daughter-in-law joined us for nine days of our vacation, starting at the Westin, ending at the Hono Koa resort, just a little north in Honokowai. We were at the Westin south, 8/27-9/3 of 2011.
We were assigned into unit 4606 and 08, Building 4, island view. It was definitely island view, as the rude woman at check in made sure we knew we would have, as Interval International exchangers.
Apparently exchangers are second-class citizens, even when using Starwood preference through II with a 2 bedroom Sheraton Broadway Plantation. This fact that we were Sheraton owners did not impress the check-in person, who actually asked Rick if we are Starwood Preferred. Rick did not know what to answer to that question and said, “We own Sheratons, but we don’t own at the Westin resorts.” I should have probably gone with him to get the keys. He really didn’t know what Starwood Preferred was, but neither did I, when he asked me if we had that status. We have not been treated rudely at any resort during the check-in process, until now. We were quite taken aback by the first woman, and then the second woman, the one that finally gave us the keys, was more rude than the first. It's definitely a theme with the check-in staff to be rude to exchangers. I heard it from another exchanger as well, so it wasn't just us.
Oh, well. We were on Maui, and we had an incredibly nice unit, even if the view was island only. I felt somewhat gypped of the resort feel, staying on the backside of the place, facing the parking lot and the mountain. From where we were, you would never think you were near the ocean, or that the beautiful amenities were nearby. It’s a very different experience. When I completed the II survey, the unit number showed as building 3, level 2, with units 8 and 10 listed. I wish I could have seen that information before we checked into the Westin. It probably wouldn’t have helped, but I would have loved to say our unit assignment, when the woman said we exchanged into island view.
We were on the sixth floor, which was okay, and I somewhat liked the view of the mountain and the Sugar Cane Train. The only other negative about the unit, aside from the feeling we were at a different resort than everyone else and the traffic noise, was an odor in the air while sometimes sitting on the lanai. It was a faint sewage smell, the same odor you smell in your car on the highway near the resort. Fortunately, the odor only made its way to our lanai a few times, and only when the wind was just right. That’s all I will say about that.
Underground parking was great; it kept the car cool and was very convenient. We enjoyed our stay at the Westin, as we did the last time while at North (with ocean views both weeks at Westin North). The amenities are superior and MOST of the staff is excellent. The pools and hot tubs are really nice, and the snorkeling in front of the Westin is some of the best Rick and the kids have seen.
Rick had a difficult time sleeping because of the traffic. It was noisy at night, then noisy again in the early morning. Pushing the door closed didn’t help. Two additional calls to the front desk netted zero empathy for Rick on the traffic noise. He tried to get us into any other unit that was quieter, and he was willing to move, which means it really bothered him, because he rarely wants to move units.
Most of the stay was great: The bed was comfortable, and the AC was welcome. So many of the island's resorts do not have AC, and I am always so glad to have it. We also liked having an oven in the unit, which the other units in the north side do not have. It was nice to have a real oven, instead of the microwave-convection oven we had last time. We cooked a bit this trip, since our son is out of work currently.
Other wonderful features are the two washer/ dryer units we had in our two-bedroom. I wish I had that at home. We also liked the huge whirlpool tub, which is probably one foot longer than the tub on the north side. The tub fit two of us comfortably, and we enjoyed it daily. The shower is also excellent. Our son and his wife appreciated a king bed in their side, which most resorts don’t have.
Furnishings were very nice, although the carpet looked very dirty, which probably means it’s close to a good thorough cleaning.
If I couldn’t get the north side, I would still take an exchange into the south side again, but I would tell the person at check in that we already stayed in island view and didn’t appreciate the noise, so please give us anything else. It might work, but I would have to add that staying on that side was like staying anywhere for location. The building didn’t even feel like it was a part of the resort. I like the activity of the pool area, but I did hear that units by the restaurant are noisy. Maybe exchangers just need to count on the worst units at this side of the Westin complex, but the units are extraordinarily nice, which is great consolation to the island view.

This is our very first timeshare visit since becoming timeshare owners. I wanted to wait awhile to review this so I could visit a few others and put this visit in the proper context. We traded for this property through II.
Quite simply put, this was the most satisfying vacation property we’d ever visited. We’ve stayed at lots of Westins and Hyatts (mostly via Priceline) and love that level of quality. What we experienced here was the same level of quality we’d experienced at nice Westin hotels, with the added comforts of home. Upon check-in, we were upgraded to an ocean-view room without having put in a request beforehand (it may have helped that we presented a Starwood Amex at the front desk). The view we got wasn’t the world’s greatest ocean view, but since we were exchanging in, we were happy with any non-standard view they might feel it in their hearts to give us. Our room was close to the lobby on the 4th floor with a nice view of the pool and an okay view of the ocean.
We occupied a one-bed unit that was in flawless condition. It seems the resort pays attention to every little detail. The hallways on our floor were being repainted during our stay even though they seemed in good condition to us. I liked the neutral tone furniture. The sofa was comfortable enough to sit on given that it was a sleeper sofa. The kitchen had everything we needed. They supplied the unit with very high-quality BBQ utensils. My only gripe was they seemed to ration dishwasher detergent. The Heavenly Bed was very nice as expected. The bathroom was HUGE. I remarked that I thought it might be a little too big, but my wife though I was crazy for thinking that.
The grounds were sparkling clean. I loved where the BBQs were set up – it’s nice to watch whales spouting just offshore from where you are grilling. We don’t like to spend too much time at pools, but were not disappointed with the few times we used their pool – nice warm temps and a decent slide. There were always plenty of towels to be had (I liked the towel card idea) and they let you take them offsite. We brought our tennis stuff and played on their courts a few times – never had any trouble finding one of the two courts available. The snorkeling was good right in front of the resort and you can catch the shuttle over to the Sheraton to mix things up without getting into your car.
The unit was clean when we checked in and it seemed they provided a pretty full cleaning midweek. One small complaint would be that the bar of soap (the standard, stylish, leaf-shaped green Westin bar) they give you is hardly enough to last two people until the midweek cleaning. That aside, we definitely hope to return. After staying at a few other very nice resorts, this one remains my favorite

We stayed in The Westin Ka'anapali North Villas for 2 weeks in October, 2010. As usual, upon leaving the airport we stopped at Costco to due some shopping. Costco is just located outside the airport. We purchased steaks, fresh ahi, lunch meat, fruit tray, veggie & dip tray, bread, lunch meat. cheese, alcohol and of course Maui potato chips, Maui coffee, and POG (pineapple, orange and guava juice combo). We also purchased sand chairs and an umbrella for a total of $80. We can use them for the 2 weeks and leave them behind which is still cheaper than the 1 day beach rental at the resort. However, the umbrella will fit in my husband’s golf bag, and we are debating shipping the chairs home via parcel post. I pack a collapsible ice chest with frozen blue ice in my suitcase, so I then use the ice chest for the perishables on the 45 minute commute to the villas.
The bellhops were ready to unload our car and have tubs with blue ice for the groceries. Golf clubs were checked into golf storage versus coming to the room. Our room was ready and we received the ocean view closest to the ocean on a high floor that we requested. We own oceanfront but I booked late. Owners booking within the 8-12 months in advance are guaranteed the view that they own, owners booking in less than 8 months get what’s remaining. I’m not sure how Interval units are assigned.
The units are spacious and well decorated. The 2 bedroom units are lock offs with plenty of closet space and drawers in both bedrooms and the living room. The kitchen has everything that you need. The oven is a combo convection microwave. It can be intimidating to bake in, but with directions it is possible. A starter kit of coffee, cream, sugar, sweetener, tea, and laundry soap are included. You can request many kitchen and bath items not found in the unit, so be sure to check the list provided in the Westin book if you need anything else. The master bath has a spacious shower as well as a Jacuzzi tub. You can request robes, as well as more towels, shampoo, soap, lotion, etc.
The lock off unit also has a washer & dryer, full size refrigerator, two burner stove top, combo microwave/convection oven, dining table & chairs, sofa, TV, and balcony. The Westin Lock offs are very easy to spend a week in with all of their amenities.
The BBQs are conveniently located through out the resort and are cleaned daily. My husband enjoys to BBQ and chatting with the other folks. There is a free shuttle service to Lahaina, the Cannery Mall and grocery, and the new Gateway Mall.
On Monday there is a welcome presentation with continental breakfast, give a ways and lots of info. The staff is extremely welcoming and helpful, greets you often, and very knowledgeable. We participated in resort activities including fitness classes, Hawaiian quilt making, Hawaiian culture and history talk, and snorkeling. There is a children activity center and tennis courts. The kids love the slide in the original villas and the pirate ship pool in the north side. A few vendors (jewelry, pictures, clothing, soaps, candles, etc.) come on a daily basis. Fridays there is a huge tent setup with all of the vendors. You can do plenty of shopping as well as the resort shops without even leaving.
Off site my husband golfed at Wailea gold and blue courses as well as the Kapulua Bay course. Go for twilight and get reduced rates on fantastic courses with great views of the ocean and you can even complete all 18 holes. Also went to the Grand Wailea spa which has terrific soaking pools with a variety of essences; the best spa I have ever been to. We also snorkeled at Honokahua Bay and swam at Flemings Beach, went to Maui Ocean Center, Kihei, drove through the upcountry and went to the annual Lahaina Plantation Days.
We dined at the Ocean Pool Bar & Grill the first night and had great fish tacos. Went to Dukes, a short walk up the beach for drinks and appetizers. They have just opened and still working out a few kinks. The view was great. We also enjoyed grilled mahi mahi and firecracker fish at Hula Grill in Whalers Village. You can get a coupon in many of the visitor for free pot stickers or macadamia nut ice cream sandwich. We had the ice cream. Yummy! Nice view and entertainment. Breakfast at Kane & Taro also in Whalers Village included great food (homemade hash) and so so service. Enjoyed a more upscale meal at David Pauls Lahaina Grill which included fresh opahkapaka and triple berry pie. Excellent service and another fine view. Another fine dinner was enjoyed at Sonz with a nice view of the waterfalls. They also run a Happy Hour Special. Our absolute best dinner was at Pulehu in the resort. Fresh fish, scallops, ravioli, all were yummy! Had a reasonably price lunch at Pita Paradise located In Kihei which put a Mediterranean spin on the fresh fish. Had a nice dinner at Café O’Lei in Kihei. The building does not look like much from the outside but the inside ambiance was nice. Went with the short ribs which were tender and flavorful. As usual, had excellent sushi at Sansei. Check when they have the early bird special which gets you 25% off.

The Westin Ka'anapali Ocean Resort Villas vs. Marriott Maui Ocean Club

We have stayed at the Marriott Maui Ocean Club several times and absolutely loved it. We found a reasonably good deal for the Westin and decided to give it a shot, as it had very good reviews.
Our stay started on a very negative note, but improved as the week went on. We paid extra for an Ocean View 2-bedroom villa. After standing in a long check-in line, were were finally given our room. I was dismayed to find we were situated directly in front of a parking lot, with a somewhat obstructed view of the ocean behind it. One of the bigger negatives of this hotel is that it sits back further from the ocean than the Marriott Maui Ocean Club (MOC), and some of the ocean views are not great. At the MOC, it is situated very close to the ocean, and we have always had a FANTASTIC ocean view. There has never been an issue. I called the front desk to hopefully remedy the situation. After being put on hold for ten minutes, I called back again. This time I spoke with a woman at the front desk, who spoke to me about the issue, then put me on hold. She never returned back to the phone. By this time I was pretty upset, and went to the front desk, toting my young children with me, who were by now crabby and hungry. The front desk said they were almost at capacity and had no other ocean view rooms for me. I told them that was unacceptable, and asked the manager to call me. An hour and a half went by, and no call. It was now 5:30 pm. My husband called the manager and she said we could stay across the hall with a pool-view room. We reluctantly took the room, as no ocean view alternative was given to us. It turned out to be all right, but didn't come close to the ocean view rooms at the Marriott that I would have received.
The room itself was spacious and clean. I did not care for the floor plan of the two bedroom, which is not good for families with young children. It basically is two separate hotel rooms connected by a front entryway. It was hard for me to monitor the children with the floor plan, and I did not feel very comfortable at night, as I was afraid I would not hear them if there was a problem. The MOC has a more standard floor plan that has the room connected at the family room.
The hotel grounds were very pretty. They were nicely landscaped. I thought MOC's were prettier though. The pool is a big deal for us, with three small children. The 1 1/2 foot baby pool was nice, as was the pirate ship. However, I didn't like that the pirate ship pool was completely separate and about a 3-4 minute walk from the main pool. The Marriott's pirate ship is directly connected to the main pool, and much easier to keep the family together. We all agreed the MOC's pool was much more interesting and prettier than the Westin's pool, with all the waterfalls and the swim through cave it has.
The beach at the Westin is wider than the one at MOC, with better snorkeling. However, I still preferred the beach at MOC. It seems more private and intimate, and is a closer walk to the pool.
Both the Westin and the MOC have a nice walking path along the ocean, and actually connect to each other (which I didn't know about previously and was wondering if that was new...)
Both the Westin and the MOC were very quiet. I did not hear much from neighbors. The biggest negative about the rooms at the Westin was that there was no trash chute anywhere. I had to call someone every time my garbage filled up, which was usually once a day. The staff would then pick up my garbage at the door, but then of course, I had to pay a tip, which I thought was annoying. When I had to throw out a dirty diaper, I had to walk all the way outside to find a garbage to put it in. Why the heck don't they have a garbage chute on each floor? It was very irritating.
The staff for both hotels were overall nice and polite. The service was good, except for the issue with our room view.
The only other negative about the Westin is all the wind, which I had read about before, but experienced first-hand. I'm not sure exactly why it is windier at the Westin than at the MOC, but it is very noticeable. By the end of the week, we were calling it the "Westin Wind Tunnel." At times, the wind cooled us off, but most of the time, the wind was just an annoyance. One day, we drove over to the MOC from the Westin. When we got to the MOC and walked by the pool, it was much less windier and much nicer to sunbathe.
The Westin lacked a decent place on premise to buy "cheaper" food. It only had a sit-down restaurant close to the pool which was expensive and didn't have much casual fare, like sandwiches, and ice cream bars. The MOC does have the Market Pantry, which has a good assortment of things to buy, and is right next to the pool. It has an awesome view of the ocean. However, even items such as PJ sandwiches and Pizza are still somewhat pricey.
As far as being the best hotel for kids, I prefer the MOC. First, as discussed before, the pool is better with the pirate ship connected to the main pool. Second, Westin has no playground for children, while Marriott has a great playground right next to one of the pools. The Westin also does not have a game room, while the MOC has one which my children really enjoyed.
Finally, as a work-out enthusiast, I always try out the gyms a few times during my stay. Both the Westin and the MOC have good work-out areas with cardio equipment, free weights, and machines. MOC has the edge again, as their work out area has a beautiful view of the pool and the ocean, where the Westin's is in a basement, with no view.
To sum it up, the Westin was a nice play to stay, but it just can't hold a candle to the Marriott Maui Ocean Club. We'll be staying there next time. It's a better fit for our family.

Wonderful annual visit to Westin Ka'anapali

Aloha,
This was our eighth visit to this beautiful Maui resort, so I will try to highlight any changes or issues that we experienced during our annual visit. Our first week was our owner week, and our second week was an II exchange using another Starwood week.
The villas in Building 2 appear to have been refurbished during the last year or so. The carpets, draperies, and some of the furniture, plus TVs, were either new or re-upholstered. The sofabed couch was new. The decor was more island/tropical than previously, and we welcomed the change.
The villas are still in excellent condition. During our first week in our two-bedroom ocean view villa, we called maintenance to fix a closet that was off its track, and they arrived promptly. There was one cracked tumbler and some missing kitchen items, but they were quickly sent up to our room. The kitchen area where the phone sits, which is next to the Internet wired connection, paper, and pen, was very dusty, which means that housekeeping does not pick up those items to dust under them very often. The coffee pot was showing its obvious age with a detached plastic top over the water reservoir. Also, the coffee pot was dirty with dried up coffee and had not been cleaned. The blender did not work so well, so we just used the blender that was in the studio side. One of the dryers did not dry the clothes very well. A brand new ladle was showing signs of rust. Otherwise, everything was in good working order.
During our second week, we moved to another lovely ocean view villa in the same building. Valet came up and packed up all of our perishables and stored them until we could check in to our new villa. Everything frozen remained frozen, etc. We were happy about that. In this second villa, we were missing a spatula and cookie sheet. A light bulb burned out in the studio, The sliding glass doors and windows looking out were very dirty and it was hard to see clearly out of them. I asked for the windows to be cleaned, and they sent up housekeeping and they just wiped the sliders down with a green towel. There were still streaks and smudges on the sliders, but it was a slight improvement. I was tempted to buy Windex on our next trip to town, but decided it was not what I wanted to do while on vacation. The refrigerator sat very close to a kitchen drawer, so whenever I opened the drawer, it would hit or scrape against the side of the refrigerator. Not a big deal, so I never called to report it. Blenders both worked well. Coffee pot was not broken, but not cleaned at all. Dried up coffee grounds all around. It needed to scrub the coffee bean reservoir and soak the pot. We asked for bathrobes, and were immediately sent two, but with no ties. Later in the week, we asked for two more for the kids, plus two extra ties, but did not get the ties. Not a huge deal. Housekeeping and all the staff seemed extremely busy and were genuinely helpful, courteous, and well-meaning.
We absolutely love this resort. Towels are great. Shampoo, lotions, etc. are great. Beds are Heavenly. It did not bother us to have one of the shower heads removed, we still enjoyed our Heavenly Showers. Villas are well insulated from noise when the sliders and windows are closed. With them open at night, you do hear a lot of resort noise and folks in the pools or hot tubs. If you are on CA time and want to go to bed early, it may be hard to sleep with the sliders open if it is a busy time and you are facing the resort. We faced South (resort) one week and North (Pirate pool) the second week. Pirate pool was VERY noisy the first night, and then it mellowed out considerably as the week went on. We could sleep with the sliders open every night except the first without being disturbed by noise/talking past 11pm.
We enjoyed the North pools and quiet better than the South this time, which is a first for us. We ordered food at the pool and found the service to be fine. The food is basic, nothing special, and the menus have not changed much, if at all, in years. I will admit that I am tired of the menus at either pool bar grills. The hot dog guy, who we love, appears to be gone, yet his carts are still stored in the parking garage. We missed seeing him this year. Perhaps he was too much competition for the restaurants. North charges $9 for a hot dog. I seem to remember paying the hot dog guy $5 at one point.
We attended the Easter Egg Scramble, which was a disappointment for my 8-year-old, but the activities director was nice and offered a Candy Bouquet activity at not charge later in the day. My son enjoyed that activity. We fed the Koi fish twice, I think, at the scheduled feeding times. We found a lot of frogs at night and giant snails.
Weather was all over the map. Very windy, then quite calm and hot. Good snorkeling the first week, not good the second week, when it rained, then was cool and windy. Beach is lovely, reef is heavily damaged, but if you swim out far enough, it gets better. We did not see our turtles this year, the first time in 8 years.
Hot tub rules have changed since last year, when they instigated a no kids rule. Now your kids under 16 can sit in the hot tubs with direct adult supervision. This rule is enforced, which is great.
Oh, one night we were swimming at North and they were playing a movie (Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs) on a big screen on the lawn area in front of the North property. I did not see how well attended it was, but it was loud and we could hear it from the pool.
I walked through the North restaurant one afternoon and there was a Bingo game going on. It think there were eight guests playing. Not sure if that is the average turnout or low.
The North restaurant opens Thursday-Sunday nights only. It smells very good. We were going to eat there, but opted for off-property eats like Kimo's, Hula Grill, Cool Cats Cafe, and Aloha Mixed Plate.
We are looking forward to going back next year.

I traded into the Westin Resort with my unit I own at Marriott and had looked up recent reviews on this resort before committing to the trade and it seemed to receive nice reviews.I was pleasantly surprised at how nice the resort was really. We have a 2 bedroom which has a common front door with two single doors to each half with a forye in the middle. Each room has a washing machine and dryer which I thought was really nice if you happened to be trading to just one side. The bathrooms each contain a tub and full size shower. Each room had a flat screen TV and granite countertops. The main room had a huge balcony when compared to the balconies I have used at many Marriotts. The rooms all had ceiling fans which were nice since the doors could be opened and not use the A/C and be comfortable. I was surprised to find out that there is no where to put your trash and so I called the front desk which sent a person to pick it up! The one thing I did not like was the fact the coffee maker did not have any filters when checking in. I would have expected a couple days worth until you could pick some up.
The resort is located in a very nice area with more resorts being built not far away. We were able to watch the whales from the beach in front of the resort. I did not like that a newspaper was not delievered to the front door each day like at Marriott, so when I did go to buy one, most were yesterday's until later in the day. I am sure this is due to the flight schedule of the airlines bringing items to the island. The local paper was for that day. The resort offered free Wi Fi and high speed in the room with a cable if needed.
The resort is located on the other side of the island compared to the airport which is probably about a 30 minute drive, but the drive is very pretty and you can see many things along the way, so that was no problem.
I would have no problem trading back into this resort for another trip if it was available again. I hope this helps anyone thinking about using this resort.
