As owners of a 2-bedroom A and B lockout at Vacation Village in the Berkshires since 2004, we have enjoyed many wonderful vacations at other Vacation Village resorts, as well as RCI exchanges all over the world. The timeshare is a triennial, which means that we have a usage year every 3 years, with the fee coming due that third year. Because it's a lockout, we can split it and use the A and B sides separately or together. The A-side Is 852 square feet, and has a king bed, a full-size family kitchen, and living room, and the B-side is 587 square feet, with a queen bed, partial kitchen, and a smaller living space. Both sides sleep 4 when using the queen-sized sofa bed, and, together, can sleep 8. The resort has a gym, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, and an onsite hiking trail. Nearby are a lot of activities for outdoor enthusiasts, outlet shoppers, or farm-to-table diners. The area has been a center for dance and the fine arts since the turn of the century. The Shaker Village, Norman Rockwell Museum, and Clark Museum are nearby, as well as many other opportunities to enjoy the arts. During the spring holiday week ownership, there's great hiking, outlet shopping, and museum visits. In summer, there are a lot of activities with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and Tanglewood, close by. Fall brings great vistas for leaf-peepers. In winter, it's a skier's paradise, with the nearest ski mountain, Jiminy Peak, being right across the street.

Our week is owned outright, and annual maintenance fees have been paid in full every year. As they are billed every 3 years for a triennial week, your first usage year would be 2026 and fees would be due January first of that year. The ownership is a float unit during a fixed week. Week 16 usually includes Patriot's Day, a Massachusetts holiday that coincides with Massachusetts public schools April vacation and the Boston Marathon. Having a float unit means that if you stay at the resort for your week, you would be placed in any 2 bedroom lockout.

As we live close to the resort, we have used it primarily for exchanges, and we manage to get great trades when exchanging. We have almost always split our week into two 1-bedrooms, and sometimes book consecutive weeks in the same location, or use one for exchanges in different years. In May 2024, we exchanged through RCI for vacations in October 2024 in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, in a 2 bedroom at Horizons with the A side of our unit and, two days later, we traded the B side of our unit for a 3 bedroom in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico for February 2025, at the Park Royal Los Tules. One of the advantages of having a lockout is that you can use, exchange, or rent both sides as one 2-bedroom or as two 1-bedroom units, treated separately. Our previous exchange, in 2023, was 2 consecutive weeks in Las Vegas, both in 2 bedroom Vacation Village sister resorts, The Grandview and The Berkley. In 2022, we exchanged for 2 consecutive weeks in 2-bedroom resorts, Club Wyndham Newport Onshore in Newport, RI, and Cape Cod Holiday Estates, in Mashpee, MA, where we had a freestanding 2-bedroom house. One time that we did not split it, we put in a request for a summer week at Barefoot Condominiums in Lead, South Dakota, and we got a 3-bedroom unit with a great view. It has been an excellent trader for us, over the 20 years that we have owned it.
